Learning Outcomes

The music and movement experiences enable the children to develop interpersonal skills and they can relate with their fellow classmates.

One of the most important connections to the Tennessee Early Learning Standards is that the use of the music and movement plan helps in the improvement of speech and language development. In addition to this, outdoor or out of class activities enable the children to develop physically, cognitively and in the overall human interactions.

Materials and Equipment Needed

In this game, the most vital equipment is the availability of chairs or rather, a place to sit. In addition, there may be small awards for those that win the different competitions.

 

 

Procedures

The teachers and children carry their chairs to an open space.

Once the place is identified, all the participants make a big circle.

The teacher removes two seats to begin the game such that at least two people are bound to miss a seat.

The teachers and the children sing along to a song, such as “a ring a ring of roses,” When the last part reaches, every child and teacher competes for a seat.

 

Adaptations for Children with Special Needs

 

For the children that have certain special needs, such as slowness in speech and other mentally related diseases, the music may be sang slower to accommodate them.

Similarly, the teacher can teach the song in the simplest words and use constant repetition for the children to develop a fast learning capability.

If there are children with a problem with walking or other physical incapabilities, they may be placed as in charge of the whole process such that they identify the winners, the losers, and other irregularities as the activity continues.

 

Assessment

The boost in interpersonal relations means that the children develop a certain level of self-confidence and they are freer when they are attempting to express themselves.

The children are also able associate authority with the teachers or the few students that are given the authority to identify the winners.

The ability of a child to talk about how they find things by using the ‘I…messages’ may help boost the lessons from the experience.

Once the child spills, it cleans up is important to emphasis the need for responsibility and to encourage that the child

The child and the parent may spend personal time together outside in a physical field so that they may have a chance to practice the skills of running and skipping.

Activity Summary

The experience was successful and satisfactory. The children were not excited earlier because the game was new to them. However, when they learnt more about it, they all wanted to be part of the game. To encourage the children, I promised gifts and claps from their fellow classmates. The children found the game hard at fast but later developed interests in the activity. Some children got hurt and split away from the group due to fear of further harm

Reflective Thoughts

 

The activity was very effective and most of the children participated and enjoyed themselves. Throughout the game, the children were able to interact freely with each other and the teachers. Learning the concepts of the game before the actual activity would have made the results better because the children would have been familiar with the game.
