Hamlet Part 1
Hamlet Part 1
Hamlet is quite gloomy and upset with the turn of events. He is moody since Old King Hamlet had died almost two months prior to his knowledge and as such he is clearly devastated. What compounds the old King’s death is the fact that his mother, Gertrude, has already remarried. She is now the wife of his uncle, Claudius, who has also made it to the Danish Crown. Hamlet is clearly feeling the loss and yet is unable to understand how his mother has moved on quickly and warmed up to her new husband with so much ease. Claudius also adds more misery by his constant tormenting of Hamlet on the sadness of his father’s death.
The political situation at the time is fragile between England and Denmark. Hamlet’s homeland is under intimidation from Denmark since Fortinbras wants to regain the land lost to Old King Hamlet by his own father some tears ago (Roberts and Zweig 585). The political situation is quite significant especially with the upcoming war through the foretelling by the Old Hamlet’s ghost. Fortinbras realizes that he has the ability to assume the leadership of the Danish throne. During the development of the play, Fortinbras assumes the leadership of Denmark order’s for the body of Hamlet carried to the stage with appropriate funeral arrangements sanctioned.
The royal bedroom in the context of Hamlet refers to the remarrying of his mother Gertrude to his uncle Claudius. Hamlet does not approve of this step by his mother and plots to have revenge by killing Claudius. He also turns to be cruel in order to force his mother’s guilt. He later ascends to the throne. This puts him in direct sight of their political enemy in form of the Danish rule. The Danish King, Fortinbras then later seeks Hamlet’s life to acquire the English land.
