Upon opening the website, the first information is about the organization itself. It mentions its mission, which is, “To transform public health within states and territories to help members dramatically improve health and wellness,” (ASTHO, 2014). Its vision is seeing people living in a nation that is free from preventable diseases and injuries.
It mentions that the purpose of its existence is keeping track, advising members and evaluating the impact of both public and private policies on healthcare and members involved. It seeks to represent all the healthcare agencies in the state. Within Texas, it assists the health agencies through collection and dissemination of public health practices that show potential. It does this by acting as a facilitator and director through providing technical assistance and opportunities for the agencies’ staff. This offers an opportunity to interact and learn together with professionals from other states (ASTHO, 2014).
ASTHO is governed by a board of directors comprising five executive officials and ten representatives at the national level. At the state level such as Texas, there are state health agency department heads, as well as other public health leaders. Some of the department and public health leaders involved in the governance include affiliate council, eHealth Policy Committee, Performance Policy Committee and Prevention Policy Committee amongst others (ASTHO, 2014).
The website contained more information in the sections. The programs section contained information of issues such as maternal and child health, genomics, primary care, accreditation and performance programs and branding public health amongst others. At the events section, the website provided information about upcoming events and past events including their venues. Overall, the website has a lot of information that can not be easily exhausted within a short time.
